About My Drink Spot

Why we built this

My Drink Spot is built by two Kansas City locals who kept running into the same problem: the big apps can tell you a bar exists, but not whether it has a patio worth sitting on, trivia on Wednesdays, or a happy hour that's actually running right now. Google and Yelp answer “where is it?” — we set out to answer “what's it like tonight?”

So we made the guide we wished existed: every bar and restaurant across the Kansas City metro — both the Kansas and Missouri sides — searchable by the things that decide a night out. Patios, rooftops, live music, dog-friendly spots, drink specials, and what's on the calendar tonight.

Where the data comes from

We start with the public record: government liquor-license registries in Kansas and Missouri are our source of truth for which venues exist. On top of that we gather hours, specials, and events from each venue's own website and public social pages, and we review changes by hand — closures, conflicting hours, and questionable listings all get a human look before they change what you see.

Bars change fast, so we re-check continuously. Listings a venue has confirmed directly carry a “Confirmed by the venue” badge. If we've got something wrong, every venue page has a “Suggest a correction” link — we read all of them.

What we're not

We don't do reviews or star ratings — Google and Yelp have that covered. We don't take bookings. And venues can't pay to change their information: sponsored placement is always labeled, and the data underneath is the same for everyone.
