Dog-Friendly Patios in Overland Park (After the Dog Park)

From 7 a.m. breakfast patios to a whiskey nightcap, here are 8 dog-friendly Overland Park spots, sorted by when you're out with your dog.

Your dog is asleep before you've even pulled out of the parking lot. Grass-stained, tongue lolling, completely spent. The afternoon isn't over, it's just shifting from their fun to yours: a patio, a cold drink, and something to eat outside while a worn-out pup snores under the table.

Most lists just dump every dog-friendly restaurant into one pile. This guide sorts them by when you're actually out; a couple of early spots for the breakfast crowd, then a lineup that carries you from lunch through last call. Out with the pup first thing? Start at the top. Heading out later? Skip down to the all-day crew.

If You're Out Early: Breakfast & Coffee

These two open at 7 a.m. and wrap by mid-afternoon, perfect for the morning crowd who want eggs and a latte before the day gets going.

Urban Egg

The brunch heavyweight - a bright, all-morning spot with a dog-friendly patio. Regulars go for the chicken-and-waffles Benedict and the biscuits and gravy, and yes, there are breakfast cocktails if the park wore you out more than the dog. Open early, done by mid-afternoon.

McLain's Market

Coffee shop meets local bakery, with two Overland Park locations, Roe Avenue and Stanley. This is the grab-a-latte-and-a-pastry move: cinnamon rolls, cup cookies, a solid breakfast burrito, and a patio to share with your pup. A weekday-morning gem. It tends to close by mid-afternoon and on Saturdays.

Out Later: Lunch Into the Night

Everything below opens late morning and runs into the evening, your afternoon and dinner-with-the-dog options, loosely ordered from quick-and-casual to settle-in-for-the-night.

Fuzzy's Taco Shop

The easy, budget-friendly pick. Counter-service Baja-style tacos (the birria and brisket get the most love) plus margaritas on a casual patio where a tired dog fits right in. Open from late morning into the night.

Pad Thai Restaurant

Don't let the plain name fool you, this is the patio people fall for, with a small string-lit setup and craft cocktails alongside Thai and Asian-fusion plates. One of the higher-rated rooms on this list, and a great way to turn a dog walk into a date night.

Red Door Woodfired Grill

The sit-down dinner anchor in south OP. Wood-fired American done from scratch, the prime rib and prime-rib eggrolls come up again and again — in a lively, high-energy room. A solid bet when the dog has earned a real meal.

Burg & Barrel

Burgers, bourbon, and a big beer list up in downtown OP, with an easygoing, dog-welcoming patio, one regular summed it up as a perfect Sunday lunch with their old pup. Great for a casual group.

The Brass Onion

The dress-it-up-a-little option: elevated Southern comfort, fried chicken, shrimp and grits, beignets, that pulls both a weekend-brunch crowd and a dinner crowd. More of a destination than a drop-in, so check the hours for the day you're headed out.

Veritas Whiskey and Wine Grill

The grown-up nightcap. A chill, slightly upscale room built on whiskey, wine, and craft cocktails, with a from-scratch kitchen (the honey-orange salmon and steak frites get named a lot). When it's just you and the dog and you want to unwind, end here.

Good to know before you go: a few of these keep shorter or unusual hours. The breakfast spots close by mid-afternoon, and McLain's, Pad Thai, and Burg & Barrel tend to be closed Saturdays, so it's worth a quick check on the day you head out. Most take reservations; Fuzzy's is counter-service.
